A descendant of indigenous Central American varieties. Named after a Jamaican national hero. Queen Nanny or Nanny was a well-known leader of the Maroons of Jamaica. She was originally from Ghana, escaped from slavery after being deported to Jamaica and organised the rebellion against the British slavers.
The fruit is pink, flattened and heavily ribbed along the body and may be reminiscent of a pumpkin, or the Italian "Costoluto" types.
Velvety flesh, with complex flavours, slightly acidic.
Vigorous and robust plant with large development, abundant potato foliage, indeterminate growth.
Production in the second half of the season.
