Developed by home gardener Al Novikov, Russia. Introduced to North America by Andrey Baranowsky and featured in the 2007 Seed Savers Yearbook.
Synonyms: Novikov's giant-10 , Gigant-10 Novika , игант-10 Новикова.
Large, raspberry-pink, 250-500 gram beefsteak-like fruit, slightly flattened and with ribbed, rounded shoulders making the fruit misshapen for the larger ones. Depression at the stem attachment is wide and corky, with a trace of umbilicus in the hollow.
Dense, juicy beefy flesh with a delicious flavour and a hint of acidity. Seems to be heat resistant, in good growing conditions the plant can grow to over 3.0m and produce up to 20kg of fruit...
Note that although the standard indicates regular foliage, there are sometimes plants with potato foliage. NB: according to a Russian collector, it seems that this variety is known by another name in Russia: Giant-18 Novika - игант-18 Новикова.
