A heirloom variety from southern Sicily, rediscovered about twenty years ago, it is part of the "Santa" family, the best known of which is the "Santasian".
Small red date-shaped fruits, cherry-like, weighing 15 to 30 grams, gathered in bunches of about twenty. Mainly used for making sauces or pastes due to its high sugar content. It also contains a high quantity of Lycopin, which is said to have anti-carcinogenic properties.
A hybrid variety with the same characteristics is said to be in circulation, called "Salentino/SaporeF1".
