CILIEGINO - CILIEGINO DI PACHINO
Sicilian heirloom. Small, bright red, round cherry-like fruit in a cluster.
Heirloom, 1925, originating from Italy, more precisely from the region of Syracuse in Sicily where it is abundantly cultivated. It is part of the general appellation 'Pomodoro di Pachino', in fact under this name are grouped 4 distinct varieties which benefit from a PGI 'protected geographical indication': - Ciliegino (cherry tomato in a bunch) - Costoluto (ribbed tomato) - Tondo Liscio (round and smooth tomato) - Grappolo (tomato in a bunch)
Small, bright red, round cherry-like fruit in a fishbone shape.
Juicy, firm flesh, sweet, fruity, delicious taste. Due to its high sugar content, it can be used for making sauce/coulis.
A heat and sun loving variety, but performs well in more northerly regions as long as it is sheltered from the wind and receives plenty of sun.
Excellent production and good storage of fruit after harvest.
